Obituary For Ruby Lee Ford
Loving devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend Ruby Lee (Price) Ford was peacefully called to rest on Thursday morning April 27, 2017.
Ruby was born on January 28, 1937 to the late Willie and Carrie Price, respectively. She was one of fourteen children, four of whom preceded her in death (Willie Jr., William, Albert and Sam). Ruby received her early education in Greenville, Georgia, later graduating from the Greenville Consolidated High School.
Ruby met the love of her life, the late Henry Ford in 1956. They were later married and from this union one child was born, her beloved son Grady. Ruby and Grady became a true bond as he was raised in a lovingly single parent household.
Ruby was previously employed at the Susie Dress Factory as a piece worker. Understanding the importance of education, Ruby Ford later attended the Essex County College of New Jersey in which, she received an Associate Degree in Nursing. She was proud to become a Registered Nurse. She served with commitment, dedication and exemplified a caring spirit for her patients, and was Named Nurse of the Year by her co-workers. Ruby was employed as a private duty nurse for Evergreen Nursing and also worked for The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey as a Charge Nurse and Supervisor of The Infusion and Infectious Disease clinic.
Ruby loved the Lord. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age. Ruby moved to Newark, NJ where she was a member of the Greater Abyssinian Baptist Church for more than fifty-five years. She served on the Usher Board, the Missionary Board, and also, as the Church Nurse. She was a faithful servant!
In her early years Ruby enjoyed the game of tennis. She was also a founding member of the Lasoya Social Club.
Mama Ford, as she was affectionately called, was a quiet, gentle spirit who was also a force of nature. She was strong, determined and always had a kind word to say. She quietly helped many people. “She was Selfless.” Mama Ford found her voice in prayer. She prayed reverently and determinedly KNOWING that God hears and answers all prayers. Ruby always greeted people with a smile. She listened to their stories and always responded with kind smile and an encouraging word. She loved her daughter-in-law Denise who cooked for her and made sure that she was comfortable. Mama Ford loved children and especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren. She was extremely dedicated and loved Grady as he was extremely dedicated and truly loved his mother. He did everything for Mama Ford with love and care, and always made sure she was alright. Mama Ford will truly be missed.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her beloved son Grady and Daughter-in-law Denise, five grandchildren (Dr. Maasi Smith, Nicole Tucker, Sean Tucker, Jessica Ford and Justin Ford), four great-grandchildren (Xavier Tucker, Noelle Smith, Xachary Tucker and Nyla Smith), nine siblings Bennie (Ora) Price, Susie Wright, Charlie Price, Carrie Lee Price, Roger (Edna) Price, Johnnie Mae (Crosby) Favors, Bobby Lewis (Marynell) Price, Grace Juanita Favors and Sylvester Price), two god children Contrell Lewis and Yolanda Farmer, two sister in-laws, Johnnie Pearl Price and Burnett Price, one brother in-law Dale Favors, one dedicated caregiver Joan Shorter, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
