Obituary For Martha Wyolene (Ford) Carter

Martha Wyolene (Ford) Carter was born Oct. 14, 1935, the fifth of seven children born to the late Edward Ford and Louisiana (Jackson) Ford. She departed her earthly life early Thursday morning, October 22, at Warms Springs Medical Center nursing home after a brief illness.

Martha accepted Christ at an early age and joined Hopewell Baptist Church in Upatoi, GA where she served faithfully. She ultimately joined Powell Missionary Baptist church as her church home after marriage. Martha truly loved the Lord and cherished her faith. Martha loved life and laughter. She had a quick wit and loved to crack jokes and make others laugh. She was an avid homemaker, devoted wife and a loving mother. She enjoyed cooking, canning, crocheting and growing beautiful flowers. Martha received her education in Talbot County Public schools. She eventually entered a training Program at Upson Tech and received her certification as a Nursing Assistant. Martha retired after more than a combined thirty years serving as a certified nursing assistant at Warm Springs Medical Nursing Center and the Roosevelt rehabilitation Center. She provided loving care and compassion to the many residents that pass through those doors and was much beloved. Martha was joined in holy matrimony to the late Walter Lee Carter in 1952. To this union was born five children: Mary Deloise Marshall, Roberta, GA, Christine Cunningham, Atlanta, GA, Patricia Gaskins (Mark) College Park, GA, Jerome Carter (Nedra), College Park and Alton Carter, LaGrange, GA. Martha is also survived by a sister, Leila King (David) of Atlanta, GA, a brother, Willie George Ford, Baltimore, MD, sisters in Law, Sophrania Ford, Columbus, GA, Ivy Ford, Philadelphia, PA, Imogene Holmes (Robert) Talbotton, GA, Alma Nelson, Columbus, GA, Minnie Jackson (Copeland), Shiloh, GA , Virginia Martin, Cleveland, OH, Rochelle Biggs, Macon, GA and Melciner Carter, Talbotton, GA. Brothers in Law, Eddie Lawrence Carter, Waverly Hall, GA and T.L. Melson, Manchester, GA. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
