Leila Lyons was born to the late Homer Lyons and Rosie Clements Lyons on January 10, 1937 in Meriwether County. She attended Meriwether County public schools. She joined Arbor Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and was a member of the senior choir until she became ill. She was affectionately known as Polly.
She enjoyed socializing at the Greenville Senior Citizen Center. Her hobbies included drawing, singing, and dancing. She had a fondness for baby dolls and had a collection of them. Polly also enjoyed good conversations with family and friends. She called her relatives daily to check on them and to say “hey.” She was very fun to be around. She loved to laugh and to tell jokes. One of her favorite times of the year was Christmas because she loved the decorations and lights.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sisters, Mrs. Jimmie Hudson and Mrs. Annie B. Hardnett; nieces Mrs. Minnie (James) Miller, Mrs. Rosa Hayes, Ms. Nicole Lyons, and Ms. Angela Lyons; nephews Mr. Willie Floyd (Elaine) Lyons, Mr. Homer (Armanda) Hudson, Mr. Dewayne Lyons, Mr. Emmett Hardnett, Mr. Randolph Lyons, and Mr. Travis Lyons and a host of other relatives. She had grown especially fond of her great nieces Geraldine Means and DeOtha Means and great nephew David Means.
