Mother Juanita Huff “Big Ma” Carter was born October 21, 1940 to the late William C. and Georgiann Huff of Woodland, Georgia. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ida Mae Howard and Cordele Whiters.

Mother Carter fell in love with and married Eugene “E.J.” Carter in 1960. To this union, three children were born: Jenie Elizabeth, William Eugene (Fella) and Ida Belinda (Linda).

Mother Carter joined A House of the Living God, Church of Jesus Christ in 1976. She was baptized in the name of Jesus and professed the infilling of the Holy Ghost. She had an unwavering faith in God and constantly reminded all who would listen that God is “do to trust.” She was a prayer warrior and will always be remember for leading the Harris and extended church family into immediate prayer when her Pastor, James Harris, unexpectedly became extremely sick in 2004. When others were overwhelmed with anxiety and feelings of uncertainty, Mother Carter began calling on the name of Jesus and led everybody into an unscheduled, unscripted emergency prayer meeting. Over the years, she has always modeled a strong life of prayer and has been very involved with the church and remained a faithful supporter until death.

Mother Carter was a consummate mother, both to her biological and church families. Although in her most recent years she experienced a partial paralysis, she never complained and was a dexterous cook. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family, church, and friends. She earned great recognition for her scrumptious homemade sweet potato pies. Additionally, every year during the church’s celebration of Passover, Mother Carter prepared unleavened bread to commemorate the Lord’s body. The tasty savor of Mother Carter’s unleavened bread always reminded us of just how good the Lord is, if only we would taste of his goodness.

Mother Carter was well loved and always maintained a compelling calmness seasoned with graceful conversation and a sweet and humble demeanor. She always encouraged others and will be fondly remembered for her affectionate “Carteranian” greetings, “Honey chile.” Yes, she won the trust and hearts of many who, even now, are impacted by her witness of God's constant nurturing love and faith. Youths and young adults had a special affinity for Mother Carter. She and her daughter, Jenie Carter, served as the church’s nurses for the young mothers at the births of babies in the church. Furthermore, when both children and adults were sick or injured, they could always count on the nurturing, maternal love of Mother Carter and her signature mustard plaster.

Mother Carter will always be remembered for her gift of love, smiles, laughter, and praises of joy, whether it be for her testimonies, dancing, speaking in tongues or songs such as her favorites, "Don't Let His Name Go Down" and "One Drop of Blood."

Mother Carter “Big Ma” leaves precious memories with her beloved hardworking husband, E. J.; her devoted children, Jenie Carter, William (Ellen, a devoted daughter-in-law whom she loved as a daughter) Carter both of Talbotton, GA, Ida Belinda Freeman of Shiloh, GA; eight loving and devoted grandchildren, Jeteseya Dennis (whom she nurtured as a daughter) of Aiken, SC, Janaya Carter and Emberly Carter both of Talbotton, GA, Mishaela Freeman of Shiloh, GA, Darius Freeman of Columbus GA, Jarius Freeman and Daniel Freeman, both of Marietta, GA and Kianna Maria Freeman of Milledgeville, GA; one great granddaughter, Anylah I’layah Grace Freeman; Jessica Huff (a niece whom she nurtured as a granddaughter) of Atlanta, GA; a loving and supported pastor and friend, Bro.
