K K Sewell Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing of Joyce Mae Thornton on March 27, 2017.

Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday April 1st, at 1:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church in Woodland GA.

INTERMENT: Mt. Airy Baptist Church Cemetery Talbotton, Georgia

Joyce Mae Barron Thornton was born April 13, 1937 in Talbot County, Georgia to the late Mr. Fletcher and Mrs. Carrie Bell Jones Barron. She entered eternal rest on Monday, March 27, 2017 at her home in Talbotton, Georgia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mrs. Dicie Lee Couch and three brothers; Mr. Fletcher Barron, Jr., Mr. W. Jay Barron, and Mr. Arthur G. Barron, Sr.

In 1961, Joyce was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Jimmie Lewis Thornton, Sr. Five children were born to this blissful union.

Joyce gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined the Friendship Baptist Church in Woodland, Georgia where she served faithfully and diligently until her health declined.

In 1955, Joyce graduated from Woodland High School in Woodland, Georgia. Joyce was a caring spirited loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and working outside, especially with her flowers.

She leaves to cherish her memory of 56 years her devoted husband of Talbotton, Georgia, Mr. Jimmie L. Thornton, Sr. Her children, Jimmy L. Thornton, Jr., of Talbotton, Georgia, Pennie T. Copeland (Chester) of Waverly Hall, Georgia, Kerry Thornton (Deborah) of Talbotton, Georgia, Felecia T. Moore (William Jerome) of LaGrange Georgia and Michael C. Thornton of Florence, South Carolina. Joyce leaves eight adoring grandchildren; Jonathan Copeland (Honolulu, Hawaii), Joshua Copeland (Atlanta, Georgia), Ellison Thornton (Talbotton, Georgia), Jessica and Whitney Moore (LaGrange, Georgia), MyKara Lesesne (Thaddeus), Columbus, Georgia, Kristine, Micaelyn and Christian Thornton (Florence, South Carolina).

Joyce is survived by three sisters; Hattie Dixon of Marietta, Georgia, Emily Ford (Jeff )of Woodland, Georgia, Lurene Thornton, Atlanta, Georgia; four brothers Clyde Barron (Louise) of East Point, Georgia, Norman Barron (Jerelene) of Woodland, Georgia, Jimmy Lee Barron of Decatur, Georgia, and Olen Barron of Manchester, Georgia. She is survived by one sister-law, Ruby Barron of Youngstown, Ohio, and one brother-in-law, Daniel Couch of Talbotton, Georgia along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Joyce was blessed to also have had a special caregiver, Patricia Carson of Roberta, Georgia.
