Jimmy Lewis Mathews was born on August 19 , 1942 to the late Eloise Parks and Culmon Mathews born in Greenville, GA who preceded him in death. Jimmy was educated at Greenville Consolidated High School. He was a devoted and active student until he graduated in 1960 .
Jimmy was joined in holy matrimony on July 21, 1979 to Hazel Jones of Stockbridge, GA.
Jimmy’s early walk with Christ began as a young child. He was a member of Oakridge CME Church. He had many passions and talents. One being his love for automobiles. He had a natural skill for restoring cars. Affectionately known as “Smokey” he could take a beat-up car and make it shiny and new. As he would say, “We can make it work,” and that he did. When it came to his family, he was always there as Husband, Daddy, Grandpa and Uncle Jimmy. He showed his children how to be self-sufficient and how to deal with adversity. Jimmy always had a smile on his face and love in his heart, he never met a stranger. He was a dear friend to many. He always came when needed, giving words of wisdom to let you know it was going to be okay.
Jimmy’s employment included many jobs and “side hustles” including working for Mead Paper Company, Cooper Gulf Gas Station, Wilson Taxi Company, and General Motors. After he retired from 30 years at General Motors, he started Mathews Wrecker Service. In addition to his many talents, he did lawncare for his church and for others.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Hazel and four children, Jonathan Lewis Mathews and from a previous marriage, Donnetta Denise Mathews (Penn Walker), Ellen Mathews Glenn (Bebe), and Jermain Yvette Frilot (Joseph), grandchildren, greatgrandchild, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers - in -law, sisters -in -law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends .
