Sewell Mortuary humbly announces the passing of Mr. James Walker Jr. on July 9th, 2017.

Funeral Service is Saturday July 15th, 2017 at 12pm at Branch Hebron Church in Greenville GA.

Visitation is Friday July 14th from 12:00 to 8:00 pm and family will receive guest from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at Sewell Mortuary in Grantville GA.

James, Junior, Jimmy Walker, Deacon Walker, Chief and Grand-grand and affectionately known in Coweta County as “Walking Tall” the youngest of the family; I’ve carried many titles.

I grew up in Barnesville Georgia, born May 17, 1934 to the late James Sr. and Elma Walker.

I attended school in Lamar County; where I learned the meaning of hard work family values and faith. I joined Sardis Baptist Church early in life. When I became a man, I moved to Atlanta Georgia and went to work as a cab driver. I later moved to New Jersey where my career continued as a long-distance truck driver, I also joined the Masonic Lodge and earned my 33rd degree the highest honor. I was also elected secretary and treasurer for the Teamster Union where I retired.

I moved back to Georgia to be near my daughter Mary in Zion Hill Community. I always wanted to be a cop so I started so I pursue my passion and joined law enforcement; beginning my career in Grantville Police Department. I moved on to Greenville Police Department for a while, then on to Coweta County Sheriff Department as a Deputy staying there for fifteen years. I got the best opportunity ever to become the Chief of Greenville Police Department and this is where I retired. I stayed off work for a little while but, I choose to go Heard County as a Lieutenant; it’s in my blood.

I was getting older and my health began to decline. I got up on Sunday morning July 9, 2017 preparing to go the Branch Hebron Baptist Church and I heard God’s whispering call; rest my son your work here is done. Well done my good and faithful servant.

I didn’t have time to say good bye to my wife of thirty-five years Rosa. She was just in the other room; I shut my eyes and I opened them up in Heaven.

To the Walker and Sewell family, I am truly sorry for the loss that your family is feeling. Anytime we lose a family member, it is one of the hardest things that any of us can go thru. And because of that my thoughts and prayers are with your family, during this very difficult time. Greg & Susie Asbell

Please accept my deepest sympathy. Words cannot console when we have lost someone we love in death. The Bible provides the finest basis for encouragement. 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 calls God "the God of all Comfort". Just imagine, being comforted by God ( Psalms 83:18) who knows what we need and gives it to us at the right time to bring us joy and help us to cope. I hope this message brings you and your family a measure of comfort

Psalm 34:18 says; "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit". And I hope that it helps to know that others care.
