Sister Connie Ann Thompson was born November 16, 1957 to the late Lois Gamble Terry and Sonny Terry. She departed this life to join her ancestors on November 19, 2021 after a brief illness.
She was a loving and devoted wife to Sam Thompson, and mother to Abena (Wayne) Thornton, Robert (Latoya) Clark, Sam (Rebecca) Thompson, and Brittini “Kolie” Thompson. She was a sweet and doting grandmother to Jatajh, Jaylyn, Robert, Jalea, Junior and Cali and great-grandmother to Aliyah (Bookie) and Keon (Boatie).
Connie graduated from Manchester High School in 1975 and was a member of one of the first group of Black students to integrate the school. She was very smart and loved to read books and internet blogs. Connie also completed training as a Phlebotomist at Flint River Technical College in Thomaston, Georgia and completed a correspondence program of study as a Medical Claims Billing Specialist. Connie loved her family very much and could always be counted on to call family members to check on their well-being. She also remembered birthdays, and sent funny, but meaningful, cards that perfectly captured the recipients’ personalities. She found great joy in finding that “just right” birthday card. She also had a passion and talent for arts and crafts. Connie sewed, crocheted, and knitted beautiful clothes and afghans that she gifted family and friends.
In addition, she loved to cook and was an avid fan of Pinterest where she found and tried new recipes. She especially liked dishes from the Mediterranean diet. Connie also loved social media and kept up with family and friends on Facebook where she was known for posting encouraging messages.
She was particularly fond of Tik Tok and would watch and share hilarious videos from the site that made everyone laugh. Oftentimes, the videos arrived just when someone needed a “pick me up.” She had that uncanny perception that allowed her to know when people were going through something and needed a good laugh to help them through the day. Connie had this perception about people because she was a very spiritual person. She joined Grace Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, formerly Bridge Street, when she was young. In later years, she fellowshipped with In the Word Holiness Church. She always had positive messages that were grounded in scripture for family and friends that made them feel better about themselves or difficult situations. Her attitude was also positive, and she made the most of what life had to offer. She loved taking photos and had a collection of pictures of family and friends from the 1960’s to present day. She liked posing for pictures with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family members and friends. She was known for “striking” sassy and sexy poses that told the world “I’m Here and What’s Happening!”
Overall, Connie was a conscientious, caring and loving woman of God who lived a full life. She acknowledged God as the head of her life, and she was a true believer. She wasn’t afraid to die because she had a personal relationship with God. She knew to be absent from the body was to be present with the Lord. So, now she is resting peacefully on the promises of Jesus. In addition to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she leaves beautiful memories to treasure to her sisters-in laws, brothers in-laws, aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also had a special bond with a few of her maternal first cousins, LaWanda “Shell” Gamble, Rickie (Ricky) Frazier, and Bernita “Sissie” Frazier.
