Jerome Carter was the fourth child of five, and first boy, born to Walter Lee and Martha W. Carter on January 9th, 1961. Jerome, nicknamed Ronnie, was born in Warm Springs Hospital and raised in Talbotton (Talbot County), Georgia. After graduating from High School, Jerome relocated to Atlanta, which became his permanent residence.
He departed his life Wednesday December 22, 2021 at Piedmont Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Jerome joined Powell Baptist Church at an early age, giving his life to Christ and serving faithfully for many years. He was educated in the Talbot Country Public School system attending Ruth Carter Elementary school and graduated from Central High School in 1979.
Jerome spent the vast majority of his work career employed by The Ivan Allen Company and the Peter Noone Company, each for more than twenty years. After retiring from the general work force, Jerome became an entrepreneur and started his own lawn service. Having a green thumb and a talent for perfectly manicuring lawns, he gained a steady and loyal clientele of satisfied customers. He enjoyed beautifying yards and contributing to well kept neighborhoods.
Jerome was a devoted husband and family man. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was there for all of their awards shows and events with a proud smile on his face.
He was very proud of his barbequing and grilling skills. He was out in the yard cooking whenever the opportunity to contribute was there. If you knew Jerome, you know how much he enjoyed his sweets. His grandson Jauquez knew exactly who to go to get what he wanted.
He was a man of habit who loved to walk daily, the weather not being a factor. Jerome walked about eight miles per day. He inspired others in the neighborhood to do the same. Everyone knew him because he was the man who was always walking. In his early years he ran the Peachtree Road race yearly.
Jerome is survived by his wife and soulmate of more than forty years, Nedra G. Carter; his daughters Jauquis T. Carter-Hill (Reginald Hill Sr.) and Jasmine J. Carter; his grandsons Jaius Carter, Jaylin Carter, Reginald Hill Jr. and Jauquez Hill. He is also survived by his three sisters, Mary Marshall, Christine Cunningham, Patricia Gaskins (Mark Gaskins, deceased) and his brother, Alton Carter. He is also survived by his Aunt, Alma Nelson, Aunt, Imogene Holmes, and Leila King (David) and an Uncle T. L. Melson. In addition he is survived by his sister in laws Doshia Johnson (James), Regina Barge, Latrece Sypho (Bernard, deceased), and Sherron Clifton, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Lee Carter, Martha Wyolene Carter and brother in law Deacon Larry Clifton
